SALT LAKE CITY – A directory of women-owned businesses is looking to expand its current database and give money to those who help do just that. The Women’s Business Center of Utah (WBCUtah) has announced it is awarding five $1,000 grants to women-owned and operated small businesses that have helped grow Utah’s Women-Owned Business Directory over the course of of the month of February. A grant will be awarded, in particular, to a company in northern Utah.

According to WBCUtah, the grant money was provided by the Nasdaq Foundation to benefit women who will invest their money where it will be most useful in their businesses.

“A grant is a great way to accelerate the growth and use of the Utah Women’s Business Directory,” said Ann Marie Wallace, state director of the Women’s Business Center of Utah, in a statement. “Not only will our communities have a more comprehensive database to search and find women-owned products and services, but it will also become easier to intentionally support women-led businesses.

“Everyone can search the vast directory for their next meal, gift, service or supplier. And, as a bonus, five female owners will receive cash to invest in their business however they choose.

The Utah Women-Owned Business Directory is a free searchable database of Utah businesses owned and operated by women. Currently, 32 women-owned businesses are listed in Cache County, four in Box Elder County, and none in Rich County in the directory. The organization hopes to grow the directory to 5,000 listings by early May.

WBCUtah will randomly select four eligible applications as grant recipients, each from one of four different Utah regions – North, South, East, and Wasatch Front – and one additional application statewide, for a total of five grants.

To participate in the grant program, a business must be owned by a woman (or someone who identifies as a woman) and do the following by February 28:

  1. Get Listed in Utah’s Free Woman-Owned Business Directory

  2. Enter the WBCUtah Grant Competition

  3. For bonus entries, like the WBCUtah Facebook page, comment and share on the directory and give away social media giveaways.

Winners will be contacted by email and will have 10 days to claim their prize. All winners will be announced on March 4.
