St. George News and Cedar City News are Southern Utah’s premier choice for local news, sports and information. And now learning what’s happening around town is easier than ever with the St. George News app for iOS and android.

“This app represents our deep commitment to keeping our community informed,” said Ben Lindquist, CEO of Canyon Media. “It keeps our residents up to date with the latest news, road closures, fires, weather, traffic and other newsworthy situations where time and information are of the essence. ”

Canyon Media currently employs the third largest newsroom in Utah and has earned a well-respected reputation for providing timely and reliable information. During newsworthy events, thousands of people check the St. George News and Cedar City homepages for updates.

Recognizing that the majority of readers use their smartphones to follow the news, the company has invested tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of man-hours into creating an app. Lindquist said he was particularly proud of the speed and functionality, adding that it was one of the fastest news apps on the market. The stories load much faster than the St. George News and Cedar City News websites.

The app has been downloaded over 5,000 times since its launch in September. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, Lindquist said, adding that users enjoy a seamless browsing experience.

“It’s the best way to consume our news,” he added. “We’re investing a lot in it with the hope that people can get all of this information quickly and right in their pocket.”

News notifications are reserved for urgent events such as highway closures and law enforcement incidents. If something happens that people in southern Utah should know about, they’ll get a ping.

Shane Brinkerhoff, president of news operations for St. George News and Cedar City News, said an app had been in the works for years, largely due to reader demand. Canyon Media contracted with a local software engineering company to design and develop it.

“We didn’t want to release an app until we could do it right,” he added. “We’re constantly looking for new ways to connect with our user base, and I think the app is the best way to do that. It’s truly a tribute to the community and how they’ve supported us. .
