Were you in the WOW Resident Directory last year? If not, now is the time to act to make sure your information is in this year’s directory!

In preparation for the 2022 Westchase Resident and Business Directory, WOW has released an easy-to-use form on its website to allow residents who were not listed in last year’s directory to submit their information for the new one. This form can be found here: https://wowmagazine.survey.fm/wow-2022-resident-directory-form-copy.

The deadline to complete the forms is Friday, March 25.

A form that can also be completed and returned is also included in this month’s inserts.

Online or paper forms can be used for entirely new or updated submissions of entries that have been published in the 2021 Directory. If your entry has already performed successfully in the 2021 Directory, you do not need to make ; your information will automatically be included in the 2021 directory.

Each spring, WOW distributes the People’s Directory, which contains the names, home and email addresses, and phone numbers of Westchase residents, as well as the names and numbers of businesses that provide valuable services to Westchase residents. This year’s directory is expected to be distributed in May.

Business owners who would like their business contact information included in the directory can contact WOW Advertising Manager Stephanie Montini at advertising@westchasewow.com.

Residents are assured that WOW has never sold, rented, or shared directory contact information with any commercial entity; however, contact information is shared with voting members of Westchase (VM) upon request. VMs and WOWs then occasionally use residents’ emails to distribute Village and Westchase-specific information, such as neighborhood crime watch information or block party notifications.

The directory is intended simply for the daily use of residents. It is however strictly opt-in. Any household that does not submit a form containing their information will not be included in the directory.

Don’t miss Westchase’s most popular telephone directory!

SALT LAKE CITY – A directory of women-owned businesses is looking to expand its current database and give money to those who help do just that. The Women’s Business Center of Utah (WBCUtah) has announced it is awarding five $1,000 grants to women-owned and operated small businesses that have helped grow Utah’s Women-Owned Business Directory over the course of of the month of February. A grant will be awarded, in particular, to a company in northern Utah.

According to WBCUtah, the grant money was provided by the Nasdaq Foundation to benefit women who will invest their money where it will be most useful in their businesses.

“A grant is a great way to accelerate the growth and use of the Utah Women’s Business Directory,” said Ann Marie Wallace, state director of the Women’s Business Center of Utah, in a statement. “Not only will our communities have a more comprehensive database to search and find women-owned products and services, but it will also become easier to intentionally support women-led businesses.

“Everyone can search the vast directory for their next meal, gift, service or supplier. And, as a bonus, five female owners will receive cash to invest in their business however they choose.

The Utah Women-Owned Business Directory is a free searchable database of Utah businesses owned and operated by women. Currently, 32 women-owned businesses are listed in Cache County, four in Box Elder County, and none in Rich County in the directory. The organization hopes to grow the directory to 5,000 listings by early May.

WBCUtah will randomly select four eligible applications as grant recipients, each from one of four different Utah regions – North, South, East, and Wasatch Front – and one additional application statewide, for a total of five grants.

To participate in the grant program, a business must be owned by a woman (or someone who identifies as a woman) and do the following by February 28:

  1. Get Listed in Utah’s Free Woman-Owned Business Directory

  2. Enter the WBCUtah Grant Competition

  3. For bonus entries, like the WBCUtah Facebook page, comment and share on the directory and give away social media giveaways.

Winners will be contacted by email and will have 10 days to claim their prize. All winners will be announced on March 4.

WBCUtah is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to help women in Utah build confidence, create opportunity, and experience success as business owners. The organization is funded in part by a cooperative agreement with the US Small Business Administration.

City of Elliot Lake staff have created a City Business Directory to help people find local trades and service providers.

During Thursday’s virtual meeting of the bylaws and planning committee, several council members said the city needs to do more than just make a list, like regulate businesses.

Chairman of the Cons. Ed Pearce warned: “I have a strong belief that at some point the City of Elliot Lake will have to license businesses, period.

City Clerk Natalie Bray called it a first step.

“If it’s something the committee is happy with, we can have it here and maybe look at expanding it further,” she said. “We are still working on a licensing settlement regarding certain types of businesses that we want to regulate. I am still trying to arrange a meeting with our attorney to move that settlement forward.”

Explain,

“This list does not serve as an endorsement of any business in the municipality,” said Economic Development Manager Steve Antunes. “I hesitate to call it a registry to validate it that way.”

“You know, to open a mechanic shop, you don’t have to have a mechanic. There’s a lot of stuff like that going on,” the adviser said. said Sandy Finamore. “The only recourse our citizens of Elliot Lake have is to go to small claims court. If someone who scammed you on Tuesday left town on Friday, well good luck.”

“We have very many vulnerable people here who take people at their word,” Finamore added.

“I would like this to be forwarded to the council because I would like the larger population of the city to be able to see this list,” she added. “You can rest assured that the first time (one of) these companies scams someone, they’ll call us saying they’ve taken the name off our website.”

Discovering great Black-owned businesses in Canada is easier than ever with a new national online directory and e-commerce marketplace.

The Black Business Association of BC (BBABC) launched Black Biz Global on February 1 to mark the start of Black History Month. The National Black-Owned Business Directory was created to support Black Canadian-owned businesses with their global business visibility.

“Everything we develop and build in the BBABC is based on the current and future operational needs of our business community,” said Nerissa Allen, co-founder and president of BBABC. “Where are the gaps, where are the supports needed, and how can we meet those needs with maximum impact?” Businesses today need what I like to call “virtual commercial real estate” and that’s what we provide.

Black Biz Global was developed in partnership with Indigenous web design firm Longhouse Media and serves as an online directory and marketplace for consumers, other businesses and government.

The platform currently offers over 400 ads, with more being added every day. Black-owned businesses can register for free to receive their directory listing and there is an option to upgrade to a paid membership plan to sell products.

Visitors can insert their location on the site to find nearby restaurants, hair salons, body shops and more.

“We understand the challenge of trying to maintain an online presence as a small business or solopreneur, and we wanted to increase value beyond a traditional directory,” Allen said in a statement. “By providing a platform where companies can also sell their products and advertise their services, we can offer them a virtual retail space. The lack of this is often a small business killer.

“Any Black-owned business across Canada can be listed on our platform. Whether it’s Nunavut Wellness Spa in Iqaluit, Northern Territories, or Tommies Jerk in Surrey, BC, we’ve created a space for them to be seen.

Nerissa Allen, co-founder and president of the BBABC./Submitted

Allen laid the groundwork for BBABC a few years ago when she started showcasing local businesses on a grassroots community Instagram page. The association officially registered as a non-profit organization in July 2020 following two major events.

“Our business was closed for three months due to COVID restrictions and we were also living through the trauma as a community of the murder of George Floyd,” explained Allen, a mother and entrepreneur. “Feeling helpless and looking for a way to turn that pain and trauma into something uplifting and community-building was the driving force to save the organization and take it to another level.

“We wanted to give hope to ourselves and the community, and we thought the way to make a difference was to build economic strength within the community. Help keep businesses afloat during the pandemic.

Black Biz Global

Tommies Jerk of Surrey, led by CEO Tobias Brown, is one of hundreds of black-owned businesses listed on Black Biz Global. (@tommiesjerk/Instagram)

BBABC supports over 500 businesses across Canada in a variety of sectors, such as hospitality, engineering, tourism, arts, health and beauty, and more. The association has also organized partnerships with Climate Smart and Buy Social Canada to encourage and advance positive climate action and social value.

“We will continue to raise the bar and push for excellence in our business community,” Allen said. “We will continue to demonstrate leadership and commitment to social good and environmental sustainability through the design of our workplace, the programs we develop and the actions we take every day.

The new site features a unique directory of Irish businesses, the Cuppa Journal blog, and is packed with resources on returning to Ireland. You can keep up to date with news stories, Irish recipes and informative articles from members of the Irish community overseas.

On 1 December 2021, the Irish Women Abroad website and Irish Business Directory went live. The official launch celebration day will take place close to St. Bridget’s, February 1, 2022, which is a very fitting day to celebrate the talent and creativity of Irish women.

Since the website went live, Irish women abroad have been blown away by the positive response. Many types of Irish businesses have already listed their unique businesses in the directory.

Irish Women Abroad was set up by Sarah Whelan in 2019 to help Irish women overcome some of the challenges they face when living abroad or deciding it’s time to return to Ireland.

Challenges such as…

  • Being isolated from your family or feeling homesick.
  • Manage visa issues or find a job.
  • Adjusting to your new life abroad or relocating to Ireland.
  • Our more than 4,000 members live in all corners of the world.

WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to search for nearby businesses directly from the app. Users will see an area with subcategories like Photographs, Movies, and Documents while searching for something on the app. A second part will present the neighboring businesses such as restaurants, grocery stores and other services.

The “Business Directory” feature was first reported by WABetaInfo when it was made available to some users in So Paulo, Brazil, and is expected to be made available to more users in other locations in the near future. Users will benefit from the feature as it allows them to search for local businesses and then contact them directly through the app.

This feature is most likely intended to facilitate purchases through WhatsApp, which already has its own payment mechanism through UPI in places like India. Users will be able to search for nearby stores, restaurants and other businesses, communicate with their respective WhatsApp Business accounts, choose from a catalog of products and services, and pay directly from the app, all without ever leaving WhatsApp.

The feature is still not available in Pakistan and there are currently no estimates of its availability. More information on planned additions, such as new business directory functionality, should be available in early 2022.

Facebook and its sister social media platforms have given their users vast opportunities to grow their business in the online space. Now, WhatsApp is also striving to excel in the field to help its users get the best experience as it is about to release a new feature to search nearby businesses.

Earlier, WhatsApp rolled out a new chat shortcut to the “quick replies” feature. The messaging app is working on similar new features to offer customers.

Six months ago, WhatsApp introduced a new Business Directory feature – a new way to quickly find new business accounts on WhatsApp without leaving the app. Users will get this feature shortly as it has been released for some users in Sao Paulo.

To facilitate its vast customer base, WhatsApp is developing another feature – a search filter interface through which a user can easily search for nearby businesses.

WhatsApp launches new business directory feature

If you search for anything on WhatsApp, the social app displays different categories including Photos, Videos, Links, GIF, Audio, and Documents. Look above, for example.

Another category “Nearby Business” will now also appear along with the categories mentioned above. If you select this category, all business accounts near your location will appear on your screen.

The feature will be released for Android and iOS users. The platform has not announced any release date.
